“The Newts” is an interdisciplinary performance taking the form of concert theater. This work combines music, dance, animation, and scenic design. All elements are not active throughout the entire piece, instead recombining in various ways for each scene. Musical elements include Javanese gamelan, electronics, metal, and Japanese taiko. Animation and dance actively interact with the scenic design elements, working together to transform the space during the course of the performance.
